Why consumer centricity is key to succeed in innovation?

This inspirational talk is illustrating how the sensory and behavior science department at Danone Nutricia Research is changing the way it is developing sensory and consumer approaches to support innovation.  What benefits will this bring to the Research and Innovation departments? How can this accelerate innovation?

The speakers will provide the audience some examples of how they drive successful innovation through consumer centricity.


Victoire Dairou holds a PhD in Food Science, with a specialty in sensory science, and she is graduated from Agro Paris-Tech.

She began her career in 2000 with Renault as R&D Sensory Scientist, focusing on improving safety systems. In 2010 she joined the market intelligence where she leaded a Global Consumer Insight team. She joined l’Oreal in 2012 in charge of creating R&I Consumer and Sensory team. In 2014 she was appointed Global Head of Consumer Science in R&I. she developed a holistic approach to put consumer behavior at the center of the sustainability program of L’Oreal.

She joined Danone in 2018 as global VP Sensory and Behavior Science-R&I, to embrace the food revolution movement and put User Experience at the heart of food innovation design.

Nathalie Boireau holds a PhD in Neuroscience and Neurophysiology of chemical senses at Paris V University, and a Master Degree in Food Behaviour and Innovation. She starts her career in 2002, in Danone Nutricia Research in France as Consumer Insight manager, leading the Qualitative studies for the Waters and Dairy divisions. In the meantime, she was also Ass. Professor in Neurophysiology of human senses in Tours University, France.

She then held various positions in the Sensory & Consumer Sciences supporting Danonino, and Activia Brands for Danone Dairy division, understanding consumer behavior for innovation . In 2013 she became SBS group Leader for Dairy, led the Product Superiority Program for the Dairy WBU.

Since 2016 she is leading the Sensory and Behavior Science team within Danone Early life Nutrition to develop user centric mindset for innovation.

Irene Fernandez Gonzalez holds a European Degree in Economics and Business Administration (University of Madrid, Spain & University of Pavia, Italy). She is an active member of various professional Pharma organisations (AIMFA, PLGS) and she delivers Courses and Seminars to various Universities on Patients Pharmaceutical Research. She started her career in 1995, in Spain, with Rhône Poulenc Rorer, as Market Analyst, she then joined Aventis Pharma S.A as Marketing Manager for the Oncology Unit. In 2002 she moved to Altana Pharma S.A. as Product Manager, where she was leading the marketing & technical-scientific activities at local level and in coordination with international teams.  From 2006 to 2016 she moved in Market Research and Business Development, and held managerial positions successively with Roche Farma, Nycomed Pharma and finally Takeda. She coordinated Competitive Intelligence & Business Insights, Business Development & New Products in various therapeutic areas. Since 2017 she is leading the Sensory and Behavior Science team within Danone Advanced Medical Nutrition to develop user centric mindset for innovation.
